A sunrise alarm is a dedicated bedside light with a wake-up routine. Whether it belongs in your room depends on the controls and routine you want. There is no need to buy one simply to use our sleep calculator.

Try your existing setup first.

Set a consistent alarm. Put a lamp where its switch is easy to reach. Decide where your phone will charge overnight. Then note which part of that setup a new device would actually replace.

What to compare.

  • Controls: which settings can you change on the device, and which need an app?
  • Connectivity: check Wi-Fi, phone and account requirements.
  • Recurring cost: distinguish the purchase price from optional subscriptions.
  • Shared bedroom: consider whether light or sound could disturb someone else.
  • Returns: read the current trial, shipping and return terms at the seller.

One device to inspect: Hatch Restore 3.

Hatch describes Restore 3 as a combined sound machine, light and alarm. Its published membership information is worth reading alongside the hardware page so you know what is included. We have not tested it and are not claiming it treats a sleep disorder.
